Shelbourne Hotel Wedding
A Shelbourne Hotel wedding is one of my favourite to photograph. Always wanting to give a sense of our lovely city to a couples wedding photographs. The character and beauty of Georgian Dublin and St. Stephen’s Green is right on the doorstep. Also a walk down Grafton Street to add an urban feel to the photographs is an option. The Constitution Room, steeped in history and elegance is a beautiful setting for photographs. Lovely backgrounds are really important to me and there is no shortage of choice at this historic location.
My Creative Approach
Aoidhbhin & Gerry chose me as their weeding photographer for my natural and unobtrusive style. I worked in New York for 10 years, with the New York Times for 7. When I started photographing wedding I brought the same approach as to a newspaper story. This is easier for everyone. Everyone can enjoy the day and not have to worry about posing for wedding photographs.
Most couples who choose me do not like having their photograph taken. Though I love taking photographs I do not like having my own photograph taken. So I understand how couple’s feel. Especially Irish grooms. Despite this couples always tell me that they actually ended up enjoying the experience. They found it fun and relaxing and added to their happy memories and experience of the day. Rather than taking away from it.
The Shelbourne Hotel Wedding Day
I met with Aoidhbhin at her room in the Shelbourne for some getting ready picture. These I also keep natural. I just stand in the corner and photograph what is happening. Making sure I do not get in the way. Aoidhbhin remarked that she did not really notice me during the day which is what I like to hear. I have an ability to blend in and not be notice. Though still capturing everything as it happens. I do know how I manage it, it just comes naturally.
The celebrant performed a beautiful civil ceremony in The George Moore Suite. In addition the opulent silk wall coverings, crystal chandelier and convex mirror were an elegant backdrop to the photographs.
After we then set off for a nice walk through St. Stephen’s Green. Aoidhbhin & Gerry said they felt like they were taking a nice walk through Dublin after being married.
A quick detour was made to O’Donoghue’s to meet with some friends.
The Shelbourne’s most historic room, where Ireland’s first constitution was written is just perfect to photograph in. With the original antique table and chairs, paintings and chandelier and views of St. Stephen’s Green. Perhaps it is about the most beautiful setting for an intimate wedding party in Dublin. I just love photographing couples take a walk around the room. Also a great setting for the group portrait.
Aoidhbhin and Gerry were so happy with their wedding photographs. They thought that they looked beautiful and very natural. This is always one of the most rewarding part of wedding photography for me.
