Dylan Hotel Wedding

It was a lovely Spring day in Dublin for Deirdre and Gavin’s Dylan Hotel wedding. I always like to give a sense of story and place to a couple’s wedding photographs and the streets and park in front of The Dylan Hotel made for a lovely setting for the pictures and a nice sense of Dublin.

Deirdre and Gavin also wanted the pictures to be as natural as possible which is how I like to photograph a wedding.

I do not like to pose people so I really just photograph what is happening throughout the day and for the portraits I photograph the couple walking through a nice setting.

As always, I find it makes a couple feel like they are taking a nice walk through Dublin on their wedding day. This I realize is better as though they are not like they were posing for wedding photographs.

I feel that brides look at their most beautiful on their wedding day when they do not have to worry about posing. Wedding guests also look at their very best when they do not feel like they are being photographed.

The Wedding Day

On this lovely spring day I met with Deirdre at her house to do the getting ready pictures with I find can be some of the nicest of the day.

I never ask people to pose so I always photograph the getting ready pictures naturally. I just photograph what is happening at the house.

The neighbours and friends gathered at the house to wish the bride well and see her dress.  These are very charming pictures of the day.

It was then off to St.Attracta’s Oratory in Ballinteer for a lovely wedding ceremony.

After Deirdre and Gavin were married we did a nice group photograph outside the church.  Then we set off in a lovely vintage car to the banks of the Grand Canal for some photographs. Then off to the Dylan Hotel.

We did the family pictures in the park in front of the Dylan Hotel which is a lovely setting and very handy and it all took about 10 minutes.

I also try to make family pictures as natural looking as possible. I achieve this by asking people to walk towards the camera for the portrait session.  It gives people something to do and I find it makes people smile of their own accord.

I came up with these ideas on the very first wedding I ever photographed. It makes the pictures more contemporary and natural. I find people also enjoy it and makes the picture process less stressful.

Deirdre and Gavin then took a walk along a lovely tree-lined street that runs parallel to the Dylan Hotel.  All in all, they had a lovely setting for their day.

Deirdre and Gavin were delighted with their wedding photographs.  This makes it always one of the most rewarding parts of wedding photography for me. They also thought they looked very natural which is the style they were looking for.
