Merrion Hotel Wedding
I hope you liked my these samples of a Merrion Hotel wedding. I always like to give a sense of our lovely city to a couples wedding photographs. The elegance and architecture of the Merrion makes for beautiful backdrops. Also the most beautiful parts of Dublin are only a couple of minutes away to add to the story of a couple’s wedding day.
My Creative Approach
With all my weddings, large or small, I like to photograph them in natural, calm, artistic and unobtrusive way. Above all I like to keep things simple and not make a fuss.
Most importantly brides look at their most beautiful on their wedding day when they do not feel that they have to pose. I do have to give some small directions but it is very minor.
For the couples portraits I normally bring the bride and groom for a walk in the surrounding areas. Couples feel like they are taking a nice walk after being married and not like they are posing for photographs.
Most couples who choose me as their photographer do not like having their photograph taken. Despite this couples always tell me that my approach actually made them enjoy the experience. They found it fun and relaxing and added to the happy memories rather than take away from them.
The Merrion Hotel Wedding Party
Hannah and Nick had been married in the US and were having a party in Dublin for their Irish relatives. I met with Hannah and Nick before their party at The Merrion. We went for a walk around Merrion Square Park and Georgian Dublin.
I wanted to give a sense of Dublin, it’s architecture and character to the pictures. I though this would be nice also for their American relatives who were not at the party.
Nick and Hannah felt like they were taking a nice walk through Dublin before their guests arrive. Not like they were posing for pictures. Georgian Dublin is always a backdrop for wedding photographs.
Merrion Square Park is also great venue with lots of variety of backdrops. Lots of the trees are evergreen so there is colour at all times of year. The wry eye of Oscar Wilde always adds a bit of wit and character. Especially for lovers of literature and LGBT couples.
We returned to the hotel for some family pictures. I also try to make these as natural looking as possible. Asking guests to walk towards the camera achieves this. I came up with this idea at the first wedding I ever photographed in order to break up the straight line. It gives people something to do and guests find it a bit of fun. Something I noticed is that it makes people smile of their own accord which is very helpful. The steps of The Merrion Hotel is also a lovely setting for the group picture.
