Same Sex Wedding at The Registry Office in Dublin

Thankfully it was a lovely day in Dublin for Louise and Matt’s wedding at the Dublin Registry Office. They had travelled from the UK for a destination wedding in Dublin. So the good weather was even more appreciated by everyone. It was also just before the lockdown so thankfully their special day was able to happen.

Always delighted to be asked to photograph a same sex wedding. It is wonderful to see how far Ireland had come in terms of in terms of liberty and equality. Everyone is now free to marry whoever they love.

My Creative Approach To A Same Sex Wedding

I also like to give a sense of story and place to a couples wedding photography. Especially for a Dublin destination wedding. Our beautiful city makes for such a lovely backdrop to wedding photographs. Especially for registry office weddings.

Registry office weddings are my favourite to photograph. Some of the loveliest parts of Dublin are on the doorstep. I have a nice route that takes in the banks of the Grand Canal and the elegant buildings of Georgian Dublin. Couples always feel like they felt like they are taking a nice walk through Dublin on their wedding day. Not posing for wedding photographs.

I also came up with the idea a few years ago to do the group portrait of the guest stand on the Locks crossing the canal. The scene has a painterly quality to it and is an unusual angle. It is also only three minutes from the registry office. It is thus handy for everyone to walk up to it. The banks of the canal beside the lock also are a lovely place for the family pictures.. All in all it does not take too much time, around 15 minutes.

The guests are then free to go onto the reception venue. I then set out with the bride and groom on the route along the canal, through Georgian Dublin to Merrion Square Park. This takes around 30 minutes.

The Wedding Day

I met with Louise and Matt at the Oscar Wilde Statue in Merrion Square. The wry eye of Oscar is always a nice backdrop for LGBT wedding photographs. I am sure Mr.Wilde is delighted with the Ireland we have become.

Louise and Matt wanted to do the majority of their pictures before the ceremony. This is always an option for couple. After pictures in Merrion Square I photographed Matt and Louise walking through Georgian Dublin on their way to the Registry Office.

Louise and Matt felt like they were taking in the sights of Dublin and not like they were having their photographs taken.

After a lovely ceremony we set off for the banks of the Grand Canal. It is just 3 minutes from the Registry Office. The family really enjoyed doing the picture on the lock. I stand on the bridge above so that gives me the perfect angle. We also did some family pictures on the bank of the canal.

The day wound up a lovely meal at The Green Hotel on Cuffe Street.

 Same Sex Wedding Photography

Nigel and Stanley’s wedding day was the first same sex wedding I ever photographed. I was delighted and honoured to photograph such a historic occasion. I was proud to see how far Ireland had come in terms of in terms of liberty and equality.

Two perfect gentlemen who were a delight to photograph.

I also thought that one of the nicest thing about same sex wedding photography is that there are two handsome grooms in the pictures.

My Creative Approach

It was a lovely summer’s day for Nigel and Stanley’s No. 25 Fitzwilliam Place Wedding in Dublin. They were looking for someone to photograph their day in a natural and unobtrusive way. So this is my style and how I like to work. Firstly I like to keep things simple and not make a fuss. Couples really appreciate this as then they do not have to worry about posing and being photographed.

I also like to give a sense of story and place to a couple’s wedding photography. Therefore No. 25 Fitzwilliam Place makes for a beautiful setting for wedding photography. Georgian Dublin and the Grand Canal are also close by.

After a wedding lovely wedding ceremony we set off on a route we have planned out for pictures. It was very near No. 25 Fitzwilliam Place. It took in the banks of the Grand Canal, Georgian Dublin and Wilton Place Park.

This made Nigel and Stanley feel like they are taking a nice walk through Georgian Dublin on their wedding day. They did not feel like they were posing for wedding photographs. It also added a nice element to the story of the day. It only took about 20 minutes so Nigel and Stanley did not miss too much of their wedding party.

We returned to No. 25 Fitzwilliam Place. The front of the building made for a nice spot for a group picture of all the guests. Nigel and Stanley were delighted with their photographs. I always find the most rewarding part of wedding photography.

Same Sex Wedding Photographer

I am always delighted to be asked to photograph a same sex wedding. It is great to see how far Ireland had come in terms of in terms of liberty and equality. Also it is nice to have two handsome grooms in the pictures.

I photographed Adrian and Derek’s wedding at the Registry Office in Dublin. They were looking for natural and candid pictures which is how I like to photograph a wedding. I think people look at their very best if you do not pose them. I give some ideas and directions but I try to make it as easy as possible.

Grooms look at their most handsome on their wedding day when a photographer can manage to blend into the background and they do that feel like there are being photographed.

I have been photographing Dublin Registry Office weddings for over 10 years. It is one of my favourite locations in Dublin to photograph a wedding. This is because of all the beautiful locations for wedding photographs close by.

We also did some other pictures on the banks of the canal. Then we set off on a route through Georgian Dublin that Adrian and Derek’s were happy with.

Adrian and Derek’s felt like they were taking a nice walk through Dublin after being married and not like they were posing for wedding photographs. Their parents can along on the walk so we could take more group picture along the way.

We arrived at Merrion Square park for some pictures under the watchful eye of Oscar Wilde. I am positive he would be very happy with the Ireland we have become.
